The Hydrovolt battery tester is a chemical-resistant hydrometer which is direct-reading and accurate at all electrolyte temperatures.

Hydrometers (density meters) measure the specific gravity of a battery’s electrolyte. Based on the specific gravity, the user can determine the state of charge of the battery.

The higher the specific gravity of the electrolyte the higher the state of charge. The best way to truly monitor your system over it's lifetime is to regularly take and record specific gravity readings.
